I recently learned of an organization that helps veterans explore their creative healing outlets through poetry. I met a woman named MarieAnn who goes by “Crazy Cat Lady” which was her military call sign. She took me to an amazing farmhouse where I really was able to let my guard down, relax, enjoy a beautiful lunch and farm animals and then write. I have always felt that I was a writer, but just get so blocked and stuck much of the time. MarieAnn and her team really really helped me. You can learn more at their website https://www.cclt4vets.org/ and you can enjoy my poem below.
“Saint Michael” by Vania Czumak
A deep breath
Of fresh air
In nature
The knowing
That God is Almighty
Parting waters
Turning water into wine
Using the elements
Growing with time
Michael returned
We still had running water
Like a mighty spring
In a wasteland
Grateful that
We were the most vulnerable
Now
We were the only ones left
